Amazonite is a green variety of microcline feldspar. Its name is taken from that of the Amazon River , in which certain green stones were found.
Amazonite often has white lines or alternating streaks mixed in, and sometimes contains light striations. The most desirable color is the deep forest-green one, but Amazonite gemstones can also be light green and bluish-green. Very faint green and Grayish-green stones can be found also, but are not commonly considered as gemstones. Amazonite is sensitive to pressure and can easily crack or chip. its hardness according to Mohs scale is : 6-6.5 .
