The chrysoberyl gemstone shoud not be confused with beryl because they are two different types of gemstones.

The formula of chrysoberyl is: BeAl2O4, it's an aluminate of beryllium. The name chrysoberyl is derived from the Greek words chrysos and beryllos, meaning "a gold-white spar".

Chrysoberyl is the third-hardest frequently encountered natural gemstone as it’s a durable one. Its hardness according to the Mohs scale is: 8.5.

chrysoberyl has a  yellowish-green and transparent to translucent color.

There are three main varieties of chrysoberyl: cat's eye or cymophane: it's the famous one, alexandrite and yellow-to-green chrysoberyl.

The term "Cat's eye" when used alone without any prefix will always refers to Chrysoberyl Cat's eye.
