Charoite

Charoite is a rare mineral that has been discovered in Russia in 1978 in the Murun Mountains in Sakha Republic, Yakutia, Siberia and this is the only known location for this gemstone.

Charoite gemstone has been named for the Chara River which is near the place where it was found. Its color ranges from bright translucent lavender, violet, lilac to dark purple with a pearly luster; it's an ornamental gemstone with unusual and strange looking. Its hardness according to the Mohs scale is: 5-6.
